10 LOCATIONS FOR TRICK OR TREATING IN PASADENA AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

Looking for the best spots to trick-or-treat around Pasadena and nearby communities? We've rounded up the top neighborhoods and events where Halloween spirit shines brightest, from decorated streets and festive neighborhoods to family-friendly events packed with treats and fun activities. Whether you’re hunting for the most candy, dazzling decorations, or safe and lively areas, these locations offer something for everyone!

  1. Madison Heights, Pasadena: South of California and north of Glenarm on the key streets of Madison and Oakland, this is a very active neighborhood. Don’t be surprised if you’re not the only one here!
  2. Orange Heights, Pasadena: Blocked off streets north of Mountain from Oakland/El Molino to Jackson. Our team member Emily loves the BIG decorations and gorgeous homes here. People drive in for the fun of this area. Since you’re here, we also suggest Bungalow Heaven, a treasure of streets with sidewalks that make it stroller-friendly.
  3. Sierra Madre: Alegria Street between Baldwin and Mountain Trail offers an incredible small-town feel with architectural homes. According to our team member Maddie, the houses here give the BEST CANDY! Plus, grab a bite in downtown Sierra Madre for a great small-town vibe.
  4. Eagle Rock: Hill Drive is not only a craftsman haven, but it’s also packed with door-to-door activity. Enjoy the amazing decor as you walk!
  5. Altadena: One of our favorite houses is on Braeburn in Altadena. Although the owners have said they’ve retired from their decor, the houses are still DECKED OUT! Rumor has it, the candy is great and the street is still blocked off. Atchison Street is Mike's favorite; typically, there's a band playing in a front yard, and the houses are dressed with great decor!
  6. La Canada/Montrose/Sparr Heights: It's tough to group this location into one item, yet everyone knows about Indianola in La Canada, just south of Knight Way. If you show up after 4 pm, good luck finding a parking spot! Closed off for walking only, residents greet trick-or-treaters at the end of their driveways. Expect great balloon arches and a lively atmosphere! Place an AIRTAG on your kids just in case—it’s packed! Alminar in North La Canada is another fun location. In past years, Jason and Laura have often been seen in these spots!
    • Montrose Spooktacular into Sparr Heights is a great event. Start on Honolulu from 5-7 pm for candy, games, and free parking, plus great restaurants and shows. Head south into Sparr Heights, a great walking area filled with parties for all ages, with sidewalks for easy walking. Halloween Spooktacular – Montrose Halloween, Oct. 31st (shopmontrose.com)
  7. San Marino: Happening on October 25th from 6-8 pm in the famous Lacy Park of San Marino, this Trunk-or-Treat event requires tickets: (sanmarinoca.gov)
  8. Halloween SPOOKTACULAR, Monrovia: For a small-town feel in Los Angeles with a closed-off street, check out downtown Monrovia. The streets close at 1 pm, and the bash starts at 3 pm, featuring a costume contest! Halloween Spooktacular & Trick-or-Treat Bash (monroviaca.gov)

  10. CARVED at Descanso Gardens: Returning in 2024, this mile-long trail features glowing jack-o-lanterns, giant hand-carved pumpkins, and fun music. One of Laura’s favorite events with activities for all ages! Open now through October 31, 2024 (descansogardens.org)

Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters:

For Trick-or-Treaters:

  • Wear bright, reflective costumes: Ensure costumes are visible to drivers, especially at night. Use glow sticks or flashlights.
  • Cross streets safely: Always cross at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
  • Stick to well-lit areas: Only visit houses that are well-lit and avoid dark, isolated areas. Stay on sidewalks whenever possible.
  • Go in groups: Travel with friends, family, or a trusted adult. There’s safety in numbers, especially after dark.
  • Inspect candy before eating: Have a parent or guardian inspect treats for tampering or allergens before eating. Discard anything suspicious or unsealed.

For Those Giving Out Candy:

  • Light up your home: Keep your porch and driveway well-lit to ensure trick-or-treaters can safely approach. Turn off the lights when you’re done.
  • Clear pathways: Remove tripping hazards like garden hoses or toys from walkways, steps, and yards.
  • Hand out pre-packaged treats: Stick to individually wrapped candy for safety. Avoid homemade treats unless you know the families.
  • Respect non-participating houses: If a house is dark or undecorated, it’s likely they aren’t participating in Halloween. Encourage trick-or-treaters to respect these homes.
