If you already live in Arcadia, you know the rhythm of a summer Saturday here. What you may not have noticed is that late summer 2026 is quietly the busiest stretch of the year on the mile between Baldwin Avenue and Huntington Drive, and none of it has anything to do with horse racing.
The Thesis, In One Corridor
Santa Anita Park runs its marquee racing meets in winter and fall. The summer months are supposed to be the quiet season. They are not. Between mid-June and the end of August, the same infield hosts the country's original Asian night market twice, the Los Angeles County Arboretum next door runs its 12th Plumeria Festival and a full outdoor concert calendar, and a new Filipino café opens on First Avenue with plans to run its own monthly night markets. The corridor is doing three jobs at once, and the residents who plan around it eat better and park closer than the ones who show up on instinct.
The August Weekend to Actually Circle
The one to block off is August 14 to 16. Two things happen simultaneously on the same block.

626 Night Market runs August 14 to 16, 2026 at Santa Anita Park, 285 West Huntington Drive, Friday through Sunday from 3 PM to 11 PM, with free parking and entry via Gate 3 at Huntington and Holly or Gate 8 on South Baldwin. On the Saturday night in the middle of that, the Pasadena POPS summer series at the Arboretum plays its Elton John Tribute on August 15, with "Music of the Night" closing the run on August 29. Two ticketed events, two adjacent parking lots, one shared traffic pattern on Baldwin.
The practical takeaway: if you have POPS tickets on the 15th, the smartest arrival window is before 6 PM using the Arboretum's Baldwin entrance, because additional free parking spills over into the Westfield Santa Anita mall lot next door during the night market and it fills fastest between 6 and 8. If you are only going to the night market, Sunday afternoon is the version most Arcadia residents actually prefer.
What Changes Between the June and August Night Markets
The 626 came through Arcadia in June already. The August weekend is not a rerun. A few things you learn only by going to both.
- The Arcadia events at Santa Anita are the flagship dates and tend to draw the largest crowds and broadest vendor selection. August has more vendors than June, not fewer.
- There is no Costa Mesa event in 2026, though the 626 site promises a return in 2027, which means Orange County regulars are driving up for the Arcadia dates. Expect more out-of-area plates on Huntington.
- A one-day ticket is $8, and food and beverage purchases are additional, so a family of four with real appetites is closer to $120 than $32 once you're inside.
- Taking the Metro A Line to Arcadia Station and then the Arcadia Green Line bus or walking about a mile to Santa Anita Park is the only public transit option. On peak Saturday nights, that walk is faster than the rideshare pickup queue.
The POPS Question Nobody Asks Out Loud
Pasadena POPS is technically Pasadena, but it plays in Arcadia, at the Arboretum, all summer. That's a Pasadena institution renting an Arcadia lawn for its outdoor season. It is one of the few things in town that draws a South Pasadena and San Marino audience into Arcadia rather than the other way around.
The full 2026 lineup runs June 20 "Star Spangled Salute to the Movies," July 11 Motown night, July 25 Rat Pack tribute, August 15 Elton John Tribute, and August 29 "Music of the Night." Two dates left after this piece publishes. If you have never done a POPS picnic on the Arboretum's south lawn, the Rat Pack and Music of the Night crowds tend to be more restrained than the Motown one, which matters if you're bringing kids or a folding table.
Where to Eat Before You Cross Huntington
The corridor's food story is deeper than any single night-market booth. A few points on the map that most guides miss.
Malaya, 420 S. First Ave. The Silverlake Filipino café is opening a full Arcadia location this spring. The 900-square-foot space in Arcadia is currently under construction, they plan to expand their menu, and while the Silverlake location was limited to pastries and light sandwiches for lack of a full kitchen, the Arcadia location will feature a full kitchen with Filipino-style pork and barbecue and a sandwich menu. The interesting detail for residents: co-owner Anthony Salvador hopes to host monthly night markets for small business pop-ups, framing the goal as supporting other small businesses. That is Arcadia's second recurring night market concept, at neighborhood scale, on First Avenue.
Hipico, on top of the Hilton. Arcadia's rooftop restaurant and bar sits atop the Hilton Arcadia with open-air views overlooking the racetrack, and the menu highlights Baja-inspired bites and coastal flavors with a craft cocktail program. On a POPS night, it is the closest walkable pre-concert bar to the Arboretum's Baldwin gate that doesn't require driving anywhere.
Blue Magpie. A contemporary Taiwanese fine-dining room in the heart of Arcadia, named for the Formosan blue magpie, treating classic Taiwanese cuisine with refined technique. This is where locals take out-of-town family who have already done Din Tai Fung twice.
The Derby. Established in 1922, family-owned and operated since 1951, part restaurant and part museum of horse racing including the Seabiscuit era. Not a novelty. It is one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, and the room reads differently when you go on a night the track is dark.
Peacock Café, inside the Arboretum. Worth knowing about only because on Plumeria Festival and POPS days it is the one on-site food option that isn't a truck line, and the peacocks that give it its name are the same ones you will see on the lawn.
The Plumeria Grove After the Festival
The 12th Annual Plumeria Festival wrapped July 17 and 18. What most non-members don't realize: the trees are still blooming. The Arboretum's Plumeria Grove is the largest public collection in the western continental United States, with 100-plus trees that bloom throughout summer. The 12th annual celebration honored over 120 trees in the grove. August is arguably a better time to walk it than festival weekend, because the crowds are gone and the fragrance is still there.
The Arboretum is also running extended summer hours, 9 AM to 7 PM with last entry at 6:30 PM, and member early entry at 7:30 AM, which means a resident with a membership can be inside the gates before the parking lot fills for anything else.
Two Bookends Most People Miss
Two more items on the summer calendar that don't show up in the tourist guides.
The first is the Independence celebration. Santa Anita Park hosted its America's 250th Celebration on July 4, 2026 at 6 PM, the semiquincentennial version of a fireworks night that will not repeat at this scale.
The second is the fall lookahead that locals should be booking now, not later. The Split Rock Jumping Tour returns to Santa Anita in November 2026 with the CSI3 running November 11–15 and the FEI Jumping World Cup Los Angeles as the CSI5-W from November 18–22. The park will also serve as the designated equestrian venue for the LA 2028 Olympics, the same role it played during the 1984 Summer Games. If you have never watched top-tier show jumping and you live within a ten-minute drive of the infield, November is a rehearsal for something Arcadia will be hosting on a much bigger stage in two summers.
The Local Move This August
The summer 2026 story in Arcadia is not that there is a lot going on. There is always a lot going on. The story is that all of it is happening on the same corridor at the same time, and the residents who plan around it get the good parking, the shorter food lines, and the seat under the tree at POPS.
